He just about reads it himself. My son loves this book. We have many of the behavior series books.
Told simply with cute, colorful pictures, your child will understand how to treat their own furry family members. If you have pets and you have young kids, this is a great book to read with them about respecting the boundaries and limits of animals. The last two pages of the board book have tips for parents and caregivers about how to use the book with your child to help them respect an animal's feelings.
We had been having some problems with out toddler and our dog and this book was suggested to us. The pictures are bright and cheery and age appropriate. This is a simple book to talk about how to treat your pets. We have read it a few times and my daughter seems to get the point of the descriptions, but I'm not sure it has changed any behavior yet, but I think it is laying a good ground work for the future.
But overall, I think this is an excellent choice, and very cute book. He always goes and gets it and wants us to read it to him. He LOVES this book. He has not hit the dog recently, but still tries to sit on her. I bought this book for my two year old son. We have a dog, and he started getting rough with her. He loves the page with the animal sounds, and he learned to do them all.
I am sorry to report that my son loved reading this book but was compelled to pull the dogs tail even more immediatly after reading the book, every time. Well it did not work out in his favor. We have since donated the book to our school's library. My child has special needs. We had great luck with the hands are not for hitting book so when I saw this one I knew Diezle, our golden retriever would appreciate it. I think it is well written but perhaps not for ever childs mind.
